In 2019 my father had a liver transplant. He had to take life-saving medication every day to avoid a rejecting liver and prevent many other chronic conditions along the way. After he got out me and my brother couldn't be there for him all the time as we had to go to work, this is where things started to go wrong.
Because of his liver transplant and the medication he was taking he would get easily confused and dazed, this, alongside around 30 tablets every day, made him very, very confused. He would either forget to take his medication, take it at the wrong time, or on a couple of occasions take his medication, forget 10 minutes later, and then take the exact same doses again and double dosed, resulting in him calling us up, panicked because he realized something wasn't right and started hallucinating.
This is where we needed to find Something that would help him take his medication easily without having the risk of him retaking another dose. This is where we decided to buy a product that would be connected to a mobile application, this way we could be connected and monitor his medication without having to be there 24/7 to remind him.
As we looked online we realised something... there wasn't anything available to purchase that would be suitable for someone taking large amounts of medication and that would keep us alerted without costing crazy amounts of money. In the end, we fell back to the TabTime Automatic Pill Box, but it wasn't good enough for what we wanted. That's where the vision for DoseAid came to life.
Since 2020 I've spent my time developing the solution and building the hardware. To the point now where it is starting to get attention!
In 2022 I managed to win an award from Innovate UK known as the Young Innovators Award 2022/23 which provided the company with financial support and business coaching along the way to help develop the business. As a young innovator, it's an incredible honor to receive recognition for my work. Winning the award has been an incredible boost to my confidence and a testament to the hard work and dedication that has gone into creating DoseAid.
The DoseAid Smart Pillbox was designed to improve the lives of the elderly and their caregivers, and winning this award indicates the potential impact the product can have on people's lives. The grant that comes with this award will allow for the acceleration of product development, bringing the product closer to market.
The recognition of this award also presents a unique opportunity for the growth of the business. With additional funding, DoseAid can invest in the development of new features. This expansion will allow for the exploration of new partnerships and opportunities to reach more customers.
The commitment to developing the DoseAid Smart Pillbox is essential to the healthcare industry, and I'm honored to be a part of this process. The journey ahead will not be without its challenges, but with the support of Innovate UK and this recognition, I'm confident in DoseAid's ability to make a meaningful impact.
